Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Vedic University, also known as Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Vedic Vishwavidyalaya (MMYVV), is an accredited, public university located in Katni, Madhya Pradesh, India.[1][2] It is part of the Maharishi Educational System and was established by the state legislature in 1995. It offers both graduate and undergraduate degree programs.

History

The university is named after its founder, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who introduced the Transcendental Meditation technique to the world.[1] Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Vedic Vishwavidyalaya was established by the Madhya Pradesh state legislature (Act #37) in 1995 and the Maharishi has been called the "first chancellor of the university".[2]

Campus

MMYVV is part of the Maharishi Educational System which has 250,000 students, 6,000 faculty members and 4,000 administrators and staff members across 250 districts in India. MMYVV has campuses in Bhopal, Indore and Jabalpur.[1][3] The campuses are reported to contain "state of the art infrastructure and facilities" including a library, audio-visual rooms and computer labs. Athletic facilities such as a track and other outdoor and indoor sports are also available.[3]

The Bhopal campus consists of a 50-acre (200,000 m2), "pollution free" facility near the airport and railway station with separate hostel facilities for up to 500 students. The Bhopal campus also features equestrian training facilities.[3]

Indore is an 8-acre (32,000 m2), rural campus and contains hostel facilities for up to 300 students.[3]

Jabalpur is a 150-acre (0.61 km2) campus consisting of "newly constructed Vastu built" structures on the eastern bank of Narmada River. It has academic and residential facilities for up to 400 students.[3]

Academics

MMYVV is a "statutory University" recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC). MMYVV is also affiliated with the Association of Indian Universities. Since 1998, the university's BBA and BCA programs have been approved by the Directorate of Technical Education. The BEd program for training teachers is approved by the National Council of Teachers Education (NCTE) and offered at the campus in the Lamti village of Jabalpur. Other degree offerings include the PGDCA and DCA. Professional Certificates are offered in Modern Office Management and Dress Designing Manufacturing.[2]

The university offers graduate and post-graduate degree programs in the areas of ancient history and the languages and cultures of India, as well as Maharishi Ved Vigyan, Jyotish, Vedic Swasthya Vidhan, Yog and Sthaptya Ved-Vastu Vidya. The university also offers one-year diploma programs.[2]

Courses offered at the university include Transcendental Meditation, Maharishi Sthapatya Veda, TM-Sidhi program, Maharishi Gandharva Veda, Maharishi Vedic Approach to Health, Maharishi Global Administration through Natural Law, Maharishi Jyotish and Yagya, Maharishi Corporate Development and Maharishi Invincible Defense.[2][4]

A distance education program for vocational degrees is conducted through the university's campuses and study centers using an audio-video and telecast format. Distance education students also have "face to face interaction with faculty", and "work related field projects". The university's study centers are approved by the Distance Education Council (DEC). Students also receive placement assistance from the university.[2]

The university uses a "consciousness based education system" which includes the practice of Transcendental Meditation and its advance programs to enhance the total development of the students.[3]
